Editorial Reviews
From the Author
With so many false starts in the past, Web 3D is still a controversial subject among web designers. Why waste time and money producing 3D content that users won't (or can't) view, when you could be concentrating on making usable, accessible 2D content that makes the most of the Web's strengths?
Yet Web 3D isn't dead, judging by the actions of major software firms like Macromedia, Intel, Adobe and Discreet in the last couple of years. The reason I started writing this book was because I wanted to see if web designers agreed with those companies. I found that plenty do, and are already setting about making successful 3D content.
The book is a mixture of analysis and case studies. The analysis looks at why Web 3D flopped so often in the past, as well as examining the different types of 3D content that I think will be successful (among them: games, e-commerce visualisation, e-learning).
Meanwhile, the case studies are of sites that are out there now (or at least were when the book went to press!), examining what their designers were trying to achieve, how they did it, and the wider relevance of their work.
