Good, but could be better!
Eccentrics is a popular write-up of the first ever academic study into the human phenomenon of eccentricity. David Weeks and his team assembled an impressive collection of eccentrics from all over the world, and interviewed them to try and find out what, if anything, they had in common.
The book is mainly a report on the study and, as such, is rather short considering thousands of people were interviewed, and historical eccentrics were also looked at. However it does reach some tentative conclusions about what common traits eccentrics have and how, as a whole, they are far happier than normal people.
Personally I would rather have seen more case studies of the actual eccentrics, some of whom lead truly extraordinary and bizarre lives, which would have been extremely hilarious. But that's not what the book was about, although perhaps one day another book may be written.
