An outstanding and well-researched scrutiny of an era
This is undoubtedly an outstanding account of the history of the late 19th early 20th century Iran as well as an exceptional source of information and reference material. The author's judicious approach and sharp insight sheds light on the events of an often-misunderstood era. That combined with his first-rate writing style makes the book almost the only one of its kind. It is in stark contrast with writings on the same subject by many Iranian and none-Iranian authors who perhaps with the "best of intentions"- have often misunderstood and misinterpreted Persia and the Persian question. An essential reading for anyone who is interested in the history of Iran.
