Synopsis
From Iron Maiden's origins in London's East End, to headline status in the world's biggest arenas and 50 million album sales, all despite a radio and TV ban in their own country. Comprising interviews with all the band members, their manager, music industry figures and other rock personalities.
Customer Reviews
It is definitely worth the money.
I agree with Reka Tumay's review, except for one aspect. Even though everyone was interviewed and the book is passed off as unbiased, beware! It still goes a bit in the direction Steve Harris wants you to believe to be true. Not only that, in all of his years as a music journalist, Mick Wall has only praise for the band, and nothing more than light criticism. Even with all of this in mind, the book goes more indepth than any other piece written about the band, and it is very informative. It is a must for any fan, but it should be read with discretion.
Only for the curious
Whilst this is a very interesting book, and I quite enjoyed reading it, in my opinion it is very poorly written, and I had expected better. The book reads like an extended magazine article for Kerrang! or Metal Hammer, with a poor use of language - the most readable parts are the direct quotations which make up the majority of the book. It is also a very biased book, with frankly annoying changes of opinion, with the last two chapters feeling very tacked-on and disjointed (for example, Mick Wall changes from being pro-Bruce to anti-Bruce to pro-Bruce again, depending on whether he's writing about the 80s, 90s or now). I would only recommend reading this if you are curious about Maiden's history, but I definitely wouldn't buy it.
