You cant judge a book by its cover5
When I was told by a friend to buy this book, I almost laughed, as it looked so unappealing. Luckily I trusted their judgement as this was the most valuable tool I had to pass finals. Once you start a chapter you have to finish it because it is such compelling reading. It is almost like a tutorial in a book. Rather than tell you facts, it explains why certain things are done as they are, something that very few books do. As a result you remember everything you learnt and it makes you think. Perfect for exam confrontations.

Great for Finals (as the title would suggest!)5
Great book for revision....the text is almost like scripts to the good lecture/explanations you occasionally get from seniors, but never have time to write down - and invariably forget. The pictures are few and primative but the text is so good at explaining concepts you really feel your missing very little (something I wouldnt have believed if told - but its true). Definately a good starting point to give you the understanding you need of a large number of topics (including orthopaedics - which is often ommitted in surgery books)and in a format particularly suitable for compiling a good set of revision notes from. Also has a very good ATLS section, ready to learn and reel of in the exam...

My biggest mistake was waiting until finals to get this book as it's also an excellent guide to surgical principles for undergraduates studying surgery for the first time. This is not a book with pretty pictures though - you need to sit down and read it properly, but you will be rewarded!
