First Steps in Music Theory: Grades 1 to 55
This little book is a brilliant guide for the beginner in music theory, or for the student who just needs to brush up on basic knowledge. It is suitable for children and adults and explains such matters as rhythm, key signatures, time signatures and virtually all the details of basic music theory in a straightforward and easy-to-understand way.
There are very few really "easy" guides around on music theory, but this must be one of the best.

Boring and wordy1
I am a music teacher and find this book very dull, dry and unhelpful and therefore will not use it with my students. It is very wordy and information could be presented in a much simpler way. Students are taught one abstract fact after another and there is little
attempt to explain how the information from one grade ties in (i.e.is connected) with the information from another grade. Most unsuitable for young children.

Excellent5
I purchased this book for my daughter who is currently learning to play the piano. She has found the book a great help in understanding the music.
