Excellent selection of pieces
Several of my piano pupils are using this book to prepare for grade 2, and are enjoying the selection of pieces it contains. The pieces have been carefully chosen to offer broad appeal, and there should be something for each student depending on their strengths and preferences. In list A, the emphasis is on precise technique and fingerwork; the 'Rondo' poses the challenge of 3 sharps and an arpeggiated accompaniment, while the 'Gypsy Dance' especially will require good finger control. List B pieces are more expressive; 'The First Snowdrop' is especially good and will appeal to the more gentle-natured student, whereas the lively arrangement of Delibes' famous 'Mazurka' provides a contrast. 'Mozzie' on List C has proved a real hit, but needs a good sense of rhythm. A really appealing selection overall.

The perfect start to self teaching piano.
I've always been quite musical, however I've never been able to play piano very well. I decided to buy this book with the idea of teaching myself how to play.
It's a brilliantly laid out book and makes the syllabus for Grade 2 piano very clear. The 9 selected songs (3 from list A, 3 from B, 3 from C) are excellent pieces for both your exams and to play for enjoyment.
I've mastered (almost) all of the songs in this book and have now ordered the Grade 3 book.
However, this book doesn't include information about scales and aural tests, which you have to buy in a separate book, which is a let down. And also, this isn't a substitute for a teacher unless you are already a musician (as I am) or are very musically minded. These two reasons are why this only scored 4/5, but otherwise it is perfect.
