Could do better!2
Ken Delve is a well known and respected author. However, this book is not his best.

It is littered with errors, like pointing out the "early variant mid upper turret" on the prototype, which is the same FN50 as fitted to almost all Lancs.

Dubious comments prevail including "other than the engines, there were no significant differences between the Mk 1 and the Mk 11". An incredible comment considering many Mk11s had bulged bomb bay doors and ventral turrets.

Soome of the picture captions are utterly pointless, adding nothing to the readers knowledge, or are somewhat spurious. For example "By bomber standards the Lancaster had a fairly hefty self defence capability with eight .303 guns in three turrets..." The Lanc's defensive armament was always inadequate regarding calibre, identical to the Stirling and early Halifaxes, and one gun less than later Halifaxes!

The index is layed out badly, (it needs an index itself).

On the plus side the book contains some fine photographs,, which in effect is the ONLY plus side.

If you are looking for an accurate, detailed authority about this aircraft, look elsewhere.
