Product Description

This book documents and celebrates the many different camping conversions built on the Volkswagen Transporter and Microbus base across five decades. Until the advent of the new T5 generation in 2004, Volkswagen never made a factory-fitted camper, preferring to approve conversions carried out by firms such as Westfalia, Devon, Dormobile, Sundial and Danbury. However, many other different companies offered conversions on the VW base and the models produced by over forty different converters are described and pictured here.

Customer Reviews

David Eccles VW Camper book is GREAT!5
I just got my copy of David Eccles VW Camper book and I am really impressed by the depth of coverage and numerous full color photos in the book. There are 37 different chapters dealing with specific VW camper conversions; from Adventurewagen to Westfalia. Also included is what might be the first VW camper, a 1951 "Barndoor" model, as well as the first VW-made camper, a 2005 "T5" model.

The book has a very good mixture of period brochure photos as well as recent photos of the various campers. It does a great job of showing how the interiors can be set up for sitting, dining or sleeping. The text and captions offer an accurate description of the modifications and/or original components of the various models. Many of the campers included are European models, and being from the US, I have never even seen or heard of lots of them.

This book is a must-have resource for the VW bus fan and an enjoyable read for the many "fringe" fans out there.

Camper, The Inside Story - another fab book from D Eccles5
For a VW splitscreen camper van fan, discovering the range of conversions, layouts and specs from over 40 years ago is a hopeless task. Enter David Eccles with this new book and I can only say I'm really impressed with the quality and extent of the the research, the accompanying photos and illustrations from period brochureware and current owners vehicles are stunning. The must have book for VW Type 2 camper enthusiasts, excellent.

Gorgeous coffee table book5
Bought this for my husband's birthday and we are bowled over. Total campervan porn - it has cemented our status as anoraks. Wonderful pictures of vans through the ages - it even had ours in there! Great history lesson on the different conversions. Highly recommended.
