Synopsis
Seidr is the ancient Northern European shamanism. The main practice of seidr, as with all shamanic traditions, is the use of various extremely ancient techniques to affect the mind and alter our consciousness to a state in which we can perceive and work with the hidden realm of spirit directly. We may take up the practice of Seidr initially for ourselves to give us a better understanding of ourselves and of the hidden realm that normally lurks beneath the onion skin we call reality. We can use seidr to connect on a deeper level to our own inner self and to enhance our particular skills and positive qualities. Seidr can also help us to connect to the hidden realms of nature on a before unimaginable depth, allowing us to gain an experiential understanding of the natural world and all that dwell therein; to actually feel one with the forest, the earth and the sky. Through seidr you may truly begin to form a real relationship with our ancestors and the elder gods and goddesses of our folk. As you embark on this path of seidr, never again will the world look empty and hollow, for your eyes will learn to see the spirit in all things and to hear the voices of the ancient ones.

An Excellent Read and fantastic Exercises
There are many who follow the Spiritual and Religious traditions of our ancestors who have forgotten about Seiðr (pronounced Saith) and there are many more who have yet to learn of its benefits. In this book Runic John discusses and guides the reader in the many facets and aspects of the Northern European Shaman. At a basic level this book creates a comforting feeling reaffirming that as Northern Europeans we have our own indigenous Shamanic culture and, although they are viable, we do not have to `crib' from other cultures in our Spiritual advancement and education.
Seiðr itself is a conglomerate of skills which include Healing, Astral or Spiritual Travel and Shapeshifting, all of which are disciplines in their own right. Mastery of these and more create the "Seiðrmahdr" or "Seiðrkona", (the Seiðr Man and Woman respectively), the powerful, well-respected Shaman of the Northern European Peoples and all are included within this book.
Runic John discusses the Lore of Seiðr, the forces of Ond (Life Force) and the Nine Worlds, including the different realms within them. John dedicates a chapter to the `journey' itself, the traveling to the other worlds, both as a descriptive and instruction on how we, as individuals can do it and what we can expect by doing so.
Every topic of discussion in the book, from the journey itself to finding all sorts of guidance in the other realms is enhanced by practical exercises. These not only deepen the information we are given, but allow us to experience the otherworlds and their inhabitants for ourselves in an "easy to follow" style.
The "Book of Seiðr " is excellently written and brings to life a little known aspect of the Northern Traditions. The exercises are well constructed from Runic John's vast experience base and allow full immersion into the subject, rather than just reading about it. For too long, people of Northern Europe have been found wanting in their own spiritual and majickal practices. But with the aid given in this book the Nine Worlds and their inhabitants, our ancestors and the Wights of nature all become accessible once more to give us the education and guidance we can use to help ourselves and others in need.
A truly remarkable book and an essential read for those who follow the Spiritual Paths of our ancestors and to those with an interest in their own Spiritual Growth.
