The definitive Clarice Cliff book!
This is a superb book about the life and works of one of the 20th Century's greatest designers. Clarice Cliff pottery is worth more than gold these days, and the book explores why and how Clarice created her 'Masterpieces' of the Art Deco era. Definitely worth a read for any Clarice or Art Deco fan.
What a life
Can I just endorse the review below. Of all the books on Clarice Cliff this one really draws together her life and pottery into one thread, and what a life she led! I also loved the inside stories of her team of decorators her 'girls'. There is a whole chapter about them, and many old photos of her and them. The thirties was just magical, and Cliff's life was not typical, but she was not lucky, she had real talent, a British original.
a great read on Clarice Cliff
This is definitely my favourite of all the Clarice Cliff books. It covers her life fully and then explains how her pottery became so popular in the 30 years after her death. It has more archive images than any of the other books. I particularly like that the author interviewed many of the old paintresses who worked under Clarice Cliff from 1927. I felt I knew about Clarice as a woman much more after reading this. Anyone who doubts Clarice's skills should look at the picture with 3 Lido Lady ash trays, stunning art deco figures.
