Operation Northwind
A thrilling fast tempo account of a desperate and sometimes brutal battle which took place in the Colmar & Strasbourg regions of France in early 1945. The author describes each sides moves in meticulous detail. it was a battle fought by two contrasting armies in that the Allies were mainly made up of green recruits while the Germans had a collection of battle hardened divisions that were under-strength and lacking in reserves.
The author also gives an excellent account of the behind the scences quaralling that went on between the French high command and the Supreme Allied Commander, who both had very different ideas as to how the battle should be handled.
