Customer Reviews

Excellent book5
As it says on the cover, this book covers "shaking, swaying and serpent mysteries". If you want to know about any of these techniques then this book is worth 5* and more.

This book combines the history of swaying and shaking shamanic techniques and then gives practical advice as to how to achieve "trance and possession". I studied these techniques before reading the book so I can certainly say that they do work.

Unlike a lot of books Jan Fries actually does write about what it says on the cover, and it will not disappoint. It is also very well researched and had a very good bibliography. If I wanted to learn even half of what it says in this book then it would take me the next 30 years.

A book about a very effective technique4
The title 'Seidways' gives the impression it is a book about the norse tradition of Seidr but it is instead a book about 'shamanic trembling'. To be fair, the author, whos background is in the Thelemic/Maatian new age systems, does present a reasonable argument for the original Norse Seidr being a form of shamanic trembling though the evidence for this is thin. There are many different examples of 'shaking' given in the book from various traditions and there is practical instruction for developing this yourself. This is a New Age book that has a very potent technique to teach but wether this is Seidr or not is debatable.
