Product Description

This guide shows how individuals can counter the destructive trend of rising traffic. By cutting our car use we can save money, be healthier and more environmentally responsible. Many organizations now recognise the commercial benefits of taking action on commuter and business journeys to reduce reliance on single occupant cars. This book is a tool for cost-effective travel planning which aims to educate and be a practical reference manual. It is about cutting, rather than completely eliminating, personal car use and contains tips to help drivers limit the damage done by their motoring. Staff, students or the general public will learn cost saving and other reasons for travelling less and more sustainably.

A wonderful little book...It could be the best time and money investment you ever made

Anna has a MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and MSc in Health Economics from York. As well as this book, her Cutting Your Car Use consultancy services include integrated travel guides tailored to a location, traffic reduction training, car cost sheets and Green Travel Plans. She is also a Research Associate with Passenger Transport Networks, a consultancy specialising in the use of Geographic Information Systems (e.g. postcode-based mapping). Customer Reviews

A great book to cut car use and save you money5
At last - a book which does not glorify travel, but looks at the problems of car culture, whilst giving practical tips on how individuals can help to solve them. Reading this book and putting into practice the proposals will raise your quality of life. I commend it most highly.

A useful guide but perhaps not relevant for all.4
This short book is a bit of an eye opener to the cost of running a car. However, it doesn't seem relevant to everyone. For instance, it assumes that you live near decent public transport links.

The advice is useful in that it does offer alternatives, including how to reduce the cost of running a car, and not just preach that people shouldn't have a car at all.

Not the best.2
As an eco aware kind of guy I thought this book would be the very thing to help me go that extra green mile without unbalancing the carbon scale. It didn't help much at all though I'm afraid. It tells of the problems of car use but surely is only preaching this to people who already know and care or wouldn't have bought the book. It is otherwise lacking in further motivation to get you on your bike or into your walking boots. The little that is offered is for such a worthy aim that I felt 2 stars was fair otherwise a book so devoid of relevant information could well have scored a nil.
So many works are coming out now on greener living that to take things further, subject specific books are now necessary but the job needs to be done a little better than this.
