Synopsis
Inspired by the work of Ernst Chladni and Hans Jenny in cymatics, Alexander Lauterwasser has produced a book of stunning imagery showing the effects of sound in water. In the eighteenth century, Chladni developed the technique of drawing a violin bow across a metal plate of sand and observing the patterns that formed. In this book, Lauterwasser extends the idea to more complex and moving sounds in water, ranging from pure sine waves to music by Beethoven, Stockhausen and overtone chanting. The results have been beautifully photographed and provide remarkable insights into natural patterns in our world.

Revealing5
This is a wonderful book. I have previously enjoyed the books on Cymatics by Dr Hans Jenny since mid 1970s. I am very interested in sound and how its power can be demonstrated - e.g. Chladni Plates. Whilst the experiments with sound upon water and the resulting array of images are breath-taking yet Lauterwasser's words take us into deeper areas of thought and contemplations. If you are interested in exploring the visible effects of sound then this book is a must. I thoroughly enjoyed every page. I had to visit the Indian Embassy in London to apply for a Visa and the endless waiting for hours and hours disappeared into a seeming few minutes as I became engrossed in the pages of this book. Very well written and beautifully illustrated and a stunning array of musical/sound visions.
