Best Gita for first time readers?4
I own several translations of the Gita. This one is probably the best for first-time readers because of the excellent facing-page commentary, which serves to explain the text. Included in the commentary are quotations from the likes of Meher Baba, Vivekananda and Gandhi.

I would also strongly recommend the version by Swami Prabhavananda and Christopher Isherwood (called The Song of God: Bhagavad-Gita) because of Isherwood's excellent introductory essay on Vedanta (or, what he calls The Perennial Philosophy). Also recommended is the version by Radhakrishnan. The latter is a more scholarly treatment, but it also has an excellent introduction. Radhakrishnan's translation is probably the most faithful of the three, but it would be good to start with this version, then move onto the Prabhavananda/Isherwood version before moving to that one.
