Synopsis Of Black Diamond
Meet the band whose mythology precedes them..... KISS has been around for nearly a quarter of a century in one form or another. From street-gang rock n’ roll sadists, to swashbuckling superheroes; from kiddie show monsters to serious musicians; from glam rock to heavy metal and back again. Love them or hate them, everyone remembers KISS. But what about the truths behind the legends that have grown up around the band over the years. BLACK DIAMOND peels back the myths and stories for fans, non-fans and the curious alike. Eight years in the making, here is the real and complete history of the band from before it was even called KISS to the triumphant return of the original line-up to the concert stage in 1996. More so, it is a look at the changing world of rock music from the early 1970’s to the present day and what it takes for a band to stay on top. Dale Sherman, an Ohio-native, has been writing about KISS since early 1984 when he helped co-create the short lived, but much sought after, KISS fan-magazine Strange Ways (once listed by Gene Simmons as his favourite fanzine about the band.) Dale has written articles about KISS for other fanzines and his own KISS Forum as well, besides writing articles on other topics in and outside of the music industry. Dale currently lives in Columbus, Ohio with his wife Jill and their three cats. Black Diamond includes an exclusive interview compact disc with ex-KISS drummer Eric Carr.
From the Author
Author wanting to say THANKS!
This is Dale Sherman, author of BLACK DIAMOND and BLACK DIAMOND TWO. I just wanted to thank fans from around the world for making the two books I have written about KISS the success that they are.
I have heard from many fans and from former associates of the band as well, and everyone seems to be really happy with the information that appears in both books. All I can say is that I'm glad I was able to pass on some information to even the die-hard fans among us. Thanks, once again.
Be on the lookout for BD3! Coming this fall from CGP!
Customer Reviews
The most detailed book on KISS ever.
This book is an absolute must for KISS fans!I love this book!I have several book on KISS and none have gone into such detail as Black Diamond.!This book goes into such detail about all the band members pre&post KISS histories I couldn't put it down! This is the kind of book KISS fans have been asking for!I learned things in this book I never knew about them.Dale Sherman is evidently a KISS fan who thouroughly researched his subject and who wrote a book for KISS fans!Dale, I could just KISS you for this book! THANK YOU!
Excellent fan-based book!
Dale Sherman's "Black Diamond" is the definitive Unauthorized KISS book for the fans, by a fan. The text has a few accuracy problems, but they're small, and the fact that a CD is included (with a rare interview with KISS drummer Eric Carr, who died in 1991)boosts fans' interest. Not as dry as its main authorized competitor, KISS AND SELL. Very good source for early KISStory.
A bargain at half the price!
Dale Sherman crams a lot of information into this book, starting the band's prehistory and going all the way to reunion in 1995. Anyone curious about the personalities involved, both in the band and behind the scenes, will find a lot here.
BUT: It's poorly written and badly designed. The black-and-white pictures are shabby, and the block quotes are in a bold font that jars the eye. Between that and Sherman's inept use of the language, it's a hard read. The information is there, but not presented at all well. Plus, the binding is cheap and will fall apart after one read.
Even at Amazon's discount, the book's general cheapness makes it not worth the price.
