An essential reference source
Although not a rivetting read compared with the best novels, every housing professional - new and old - should take the time to read this reference book at least once. Andrew Dymond lays out in clear language what constitues the basic elements of a tenancy, how they are commenced and maintained, and how they can be lawfully terminated.
All too often in the housing field I have witnessed unlawful shortcuts that can lead to severe penalties if they come to light in Court. 'Security of Tenure' quotes actual case law to illustrate the right and wrong way to interpret housing law - witness the example in the book where £34000.00 compensation was paid by Southwark to a tenant all because of poor practice.
Andrew Dymond also gives clear examples of how different Judges see the same information and make conflicting decisions. The legal overview provided by 'Security of Tenure' will prove invaluable in housing where the trend not to use legal advisors in possession cases is increasing.
'Security of Tenure' makes a great companion to any housing related studies or training course on housing law. I would recommend that at least one copy should be in the library at your organisation. Even if it only prevents one counter-claim for unlawful or bad practice, it will be a bargain.
