Best Value is a statutory requirement imposed by the Local Government Act 1999 on all local authorities and their housing departments. This book provides both expert commentary on the legislation, advice on good practice in implementation, and dealing with audits and inspections. The book begins with explaining the origins and context of best value. It goes on to set out how to undertake best value reviews. Chapter three analyses the performance management framework for best value and chapter four offers guidance on consulting stakeholders of the housing service. the role of competition in best value and the powers and duties of the audit and inspection regime for implementing best value follow next. Chapter 7 sets out the powers of the Secretary of State to intervene if an authority has not complied with the best value regime. An appendix provides a model for implementing best value plans. The book is designed to be of professional use to housing managers and officers; housing lawyers; social workers; tenants' advisers and representatives; and also to lecturers in housing studies.

Easy to understand and well explained
I work in housing and found the whole best value process a bit confusing - that was until I read this book. I've also read CCT and Housing Management by the same authors, and I found that really useful too. For anyone in housing or local governement world, I certainly recommend this book.
