Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
GHF Atkins started to visit London from his Nottingham base in 1927. From then until the outbreak of war in 1939 he covered many LGOC classes, all the standard LPTB Chiswick-built types and a few rarities in a series of splendid portraits as well as making regular calls to Victoria coach station to record the metropolitan coaching scene of the era. In post-war years coverage was perhaps even more comprehensive, with a run of detailed studies of the new RT family of double-deckers, as well as the RF single-deckers and, from the late 1950s, the legendary Routemaster. As always with this photographer's work many of the pictures record vehicles in brand new condition. Trolleybuses were not neglected and there are some fine, hitherto unpublished, views of them from the earliest "Diddlers" to the post-war Q-class eight-footers.
