Review
This handsome, well-illustrated and waterproof guide to one of Scotland's newest long distance walks ... is the perfect companion to a fascinating route. --from Roly Smith's review in 'Outdoor Focus' magazine, Spring 2008
About the Author
After a long career in education, information technology and academic publishing, Jacquetta became interested in long-distance walking and trekking. After completing the West Highland Way, her first long walk, in 1998 she progressed to Mount Kilimanjaro, which she has summited four times by different routes. In 2000 she devised the waterproof, open-flat Rucksack Reader format with dropdown maps for walking guidebooks. She has since written or co-authored a further nine Rucksack Readers. In late 2007 she walked the Arran Coastal Way for this new guidebook, returning to Arran in May 2008 for the book's launch, a joint walk by the Rotary Clubs of Stirling and Arran.

The Arran Coastal Way
This book is a gem. The publishers were very helpful in allowing me to buy an advance copy before general release, in order for me to research for a forthcoming trip.
First off, the size & shape is ideal for putting into a large pocket or mapcase, whilst the wirobound open-flat binding and dropdown map flap make it ideal to use while hiking. The mapping is at a large enough scale to read on the move.
The book is well illustrated with many colour photographs, and very comprehensive giving detailed route stages, including terrain, distances, points of interest, food & drink facilities etc., as well as information and website details on public transport, tourist information, tide awareness, ferry crossings and so on. There are also sections on the island's history, wildlife and geology.
A well researched book, and it feels like it has been written as a labour of love. It's obvious from her enthusiasm and detail that the author knows Arran at first hand, and the information is up to date at time of publication. Apart from doing a bit of website searching for travel timetables and accommodation bookings, I'd say that this book has all the other information you need.
