Product Description

The role of the guardian ad litem service in family law proceedings is undergoing change. This report examines it from two perspectives: the other professionals involved in family law proceedings and the children and young people who are represented by guardians. The findings will help inform the development of the Children and Family Court Advisory Service. Based on research into cases handled by Humberside GALRO Panel managed by the Children's Society, the report examines: professionals' perceptions of the role and contribution of guardians; children's views of their guardians; children's experience of the court process; the guardian's influence on the course of proceedings; practice and policy issues arising from the study and the implications for future services. The report also provides a valuable model for research with children, using innovative ways to elicit their views, keep them motivated and provide them with an opportunity to influence service delivery.
