Product Description

Devised by ten classroom teachers active in the Thinking Through Geography Group, this exciting resource will help you create stimulating, memorable geography lessons that encourage risk-taking and develop your professional practice This book is about geography with a difference. Geography is a brilliant, exciting subject - at least it should be. However, our main concern is not with geography, it is with children's learning and that is the difference. Geography should assist learning, not just be a load of content to be delivered, and it is this fresh approach that has attracted so much acclaim. This book is as much about professional development as it is about providing direct teaching resources. Making its strategies work effectively requires you to take risks, develop your practice and learn more about students' learning.

a saviour from the boring textbook5
Teaching Thinking should be a part of every teachers pedigogy. This book has excellent examplars for secondary school geography lessons. The strategies encourage the pupils to think and then to go onto think about how they did them (metacognition). The skills the pupils learn from doing these stragtegies and the geographical content can be transferred into everyday life. If you are new to teaching thinking start with an easy strategy like a living graph and then progress to a very powerful strategy of a mystery. It has tips on how to adapt the strategies and ensures that geography is not all worksheet and textbook work. I have tried all the strategies and pupils both enjoy them and learn a great deal from them. it has been put together by teachers for teachers and is well worth a read.

A must for geographers and teachers everywhere5
This book helps to add a practical and fun vibe to geography lessons, and indead school in general. It offers different approaches to the subject and is a perfect way to introduce and explain issues within the geography curriculum. I feel that this book enabled me when i was a student and now as a trainee teacher to progress in my education and now career. It is rewarding to see how much the pupils get out of the activities, you feel they are really learning.

An excellent resource...5
A great book for all Geography teachers. Some terrific activities which really do encourage discussion and reflective thinking. You will find yourself not only using the resources in this book, but also being inspired to design your own afterwards.
