Product Description

Fundamentals of Surgical Practice is the essential textbook for the MRCS and the AFRCSEd. Exactly mirroring the unified syllabus, it gives the trainee a clear understanding of the core knowledge required to succeed in the examinations and stands apart from other textbooks in its direct relevance to the new examination. The chapters have been written by acknowledged experts in their field, many of whom are themselves involved in the training and examining of candidates, and the content has been designed to make learning as efficient as possible, whilst at the same time providing adequate detail, key points and suggestions for further reading. In addition to a detailed index, each chapter has its own table of contents to enhance ease of use. Fundamentals of Surgical Practice is indispensable for the trainee, and also provides the established surgeon and other healthcare professionals working in the surgical environment with a modern, authoritative overview of the key areas of surgical practice.

Editorial Reviews

Review
‘ … this is a thorough and comprehensive text which achieves its aims. It fills the gap which currently exists between the Royal College Course Manual and the purer surgical texts. I feel that it will become a standard book among those approaching the MRCS examination.’ Injury

‘ … the editors score most points by clearly targeting their readership and by including a substantial proportion of the core of knowledge required for the new fellowship exams … I would buy this book if I were involved in the AFRCS/MRCS either as a candidate or as an examiner.’ Journal of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

‘Fundamentals of Surgical Practice is welcome and will be of great interest to a large number of surgical trainees.’ British Journal of Surgery

Fundamentals of Surgical Practice-Aljafri AM, Andrew K4
Having read this book for MRCS and passed the exam, I must recommend it for all surgical trainees to aid their preparation for Part 1. This is probably the only text that covers the entire syllabus for both MCQ Core and System Modules in a single book. Each chapter is written to follow the syllabus laid out by the Royal College of Surgeons accordingly. The editors assemble 29 internationally renowned authors from all over the world to write for each chapter they specialise in. This book contains quite a number of tables especially in the core modules, also diagrams and illustrations. The only setback is there are no colored illustrations. The anatomy and physiology of each system is delineated briefly, covering only the essential facts : another strong point found in each chapter in the systemic modules. Important facts which is often asked in the past RCS questions are included - a plus point appeals most to those who prepare for the exam ! My advice - read it cover to cover for at least once before you sit for the exam !

SUMMARY : Concise, exam orientated, complete coverage of the entire Royal College syllabus
