Stroud were Scotland's greatest manufacturers of optical instruments, who for over a century provided the armies and navies of the world with sighting, measuring and observation equipment. Based on previously unpublished documents from the company's archive, the main intention of this book is to identify the patterns of more than 60 models of binocular field glasses and place them in their historical setting.

Customer Reviews
Barr and Stroud binoculars and the Royal Navy.
An excellent reference book that is actually quite readable.Though its main subject is the huge naval glasses which are quite familar from such films as "The Cruel Sea"and "Battle of the River Plate"all Barr & Stroud glasses are covered. The civilian products, though less distinctive, get equally thorough treatment from this expert author.
I would recommend this book to any binocular collector or dealer without reservation as an essential part of your library.
