Operation Bodenplatte was devised to despatch 800 Luftwaffe fighters to attack Allied bases in Western Europe on the first of January 1945. The operation turned out to be the Luftwaffe's final act of self-destruction. This book tells the story of that fated operation.

Exciting account of the first day of the last year of war
Lots of historical information in the appendices but the most important feature of this book is the interviews with the people who were present during this incredible 1 January on the Western Front. Some terrific accounts that give a picture of what it feels like to take part in and be on the receiving end of a virtual suicide mission.
Impressive minute to minute action but not complete
Norman's "Battle of the Airfields" significantly adds to the only previous attempt to describe this disastrous raid. But this one was done decades ago by German author Werner Girbig. The actions on the British fields are in general pretty accurately described. However, the same can not be said for the USAAF and Luftwaffe.
I guess we are all waiting for the definite book on Bodenplatte but until that book will be available Norman's will be a good buy.
