"Ghosts of the Old Year features thoughtful writing and serious grappling with contemporary issues. The stories are by and large reluctant to indulge in cheap tricks or fantastic turns of plot. Since a number of contributors are at the beginnings of writing careers, that is perhaps no small achievement."
