Sentenced to death on 22 September 1746 at "Carlisle" and to be carried out on 15th November. The marchioness of Annandale, a relative, interceded, saying that his father had forced him to join the "Jacobites". He turned the king's evidence and was released into the army 26th September 1747.

About the Author
Mairead McKerracher is descended from the Macdonalds of Glencoe and has studied Scottish history since she was a child. She worked as a librarian at Glasgow University. She has written historical articles, largely for the American market, and is a past editor of The Jacobite. She is also a member of the 1745 Society.
