Editorial Reviews

Escalate, September 2003
This is an invaluable book...packed full of practical ideas.

From the Author
The thinking behind the book is to support the student teacher and those teachers already in primary schools in the expansion of confidence and competence in subject knowledge through addressing pedagogical issues. This enables the reader to reconsider some of the basic concepts that underlie school-based mathematics, to develop insight into the application of these concepts and so develop their awareness of the creativity of mathematics. Through these means the reader can rebuild lost understanding and develop new understanding, all contributing to their becoming more effective teachers of primary mathematics.

Calling ALL primary teachers!5
Whether you are already a primary teacher or in training this book is a must have.
I am training to become a primary teacher and this book has helped me no end with the theory behind Maths teaching.
The book has a continuous focus on misconceptions which are likely to arise in maths and breaks them up into manageable sections.
The chapter on Daily Maths Lessons was extremelly useful as it informs you on the best way to structure them and has helped me on teaching practice and preparing for the numeracy hour.
This book aims at preparing you to meet the standards to recieve QTS and i feel alot more confident in doing so, now that I have a copy of this book at my side.
My advice to you is to buy it!!!!
