Editorial Reviews
Review
'The Evidence for Urology' has been awarded first prize in the Urology category of the 2005 BMA Medical Book Competition. The judges said, "This is an excellent book which reviews the evidence for a number of complex urological questions which are raised by trainees, consultants and sometimes by patients. It is brilliantly laid-out with the right amount of emphasis in each chapter. There are summary points at the end of each chapter which guide the clinician appropriately. The evidence is up to date and well-reviewed, providing a good summary as well as a launching platform for further reading. I would recommend this book to consultants and trainees alike, especially to those coming up to specialty examinations."
From the Author
This work is unique in Urology as we believe it to be the first book of its kind - a source of information in Urology based on evidence based medicine (EBM) principles.
This book will be of use to all levels of trainee (particularly those contemplating the FRCS(Urol) and other exit exams) and we hope that Consultant Urologists will find the information contained within of value.
The authors are to be congratulated for their efforts in producing this work.
Chris Dawson.
From the Inside Flap
Why do any of us hold the views that we do in practising urology?
Factors which influence our current views will include prejudices picked up during our training. Our own experience or that of our colleagues will also, in some way, have an effect on the decisions that we take.
With the changing financial climate in medicine as a whole it is imperative that decisions taken affectin patient treatment are made using the best available evidence - something that until now has rarely been the case.
This book, uniquely in the field of urology, is the collaborative work of a number of distinguished and international authors and covers a wide range of challenging issues in urology. The subject matter has in each case been carefully reviewed to include the evidence base which influences current thinking in that area.
Customer Reviews
Excellent book for anyone interested in contemporary urology
Covered most of the essential questions raised in the day to day management of patients in urology. Most chapters gave balanced and objective reviews of the subject discussed. A standardised format of presentation in the main text might further improve the consistency of quality. The summary page for each chapter, however, was standardised, well organised and most informative.
