Product Description

When celebrated British photographer Rankin placed an anonymous advert in Time Out asking for models 'any age, any size’, the results were bound to be
provocative. After a decade of redefining the way rockstars, actors and models were depicted he created a major challenge for himself by turning to the culturally charged 'female nude'. The 107 sexy, humorous, ideologically progressive images which came from the project succeeded, however, in re-examining notions of eroticism as well as the power politics of female
subject / male artist. A global media stir followed the collection's publication; but what remains after the hubbub, is a series of gracious, entertaining, insightful and democratic photographs, profoundly in sync with
the gender psychology of the 21st century. Whether models, big girls, professional ladies or stars like Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue, all of the women were invited to collaborate with Rankin on how they should be
presented. With set ups ranging from projections of fantasy sexuality to the highly ironic, and by now famous image of a naked woman in a shopping trolley, the diversity and freshness of the ensuing studies is a testimony to the confidence and complexity of the contemporary female self-image as well as to Rankin's interpretative skills. As the photographer says of his
conspirators in the frank introductory interview: "It's about them feeling good about themselves taking their clothes off. None of them are doing itfor me." There are many photographs of beautiful women, but a lot less beautiful photographs of women. The Nude Photography Of Rankin is one of the few books that helps to correct that imbalance.

Rose Aiden, 5th September 1999, Sunday Times
The images are gruesomely fascinating with their voyeuristic observation of body and fantasy…

Susannah Frankel, The Independent Magazine, 26th June 1999
the brainchild of one of the most in demand and respected photographers.

Melenie Rickey, 13th August 1999, The Daily Telegraph
Rankin's portraits have an intimate quality, as though the subject is alone, looking into a mirror, revealing his innermost thoughts.

Rankin Nudes4
This is one of Rankin's better, earlier books which showed a variety of ideas, from himself and his contributors. There is no selection based on looks, there are big women, skinny women, old and young, sexy and humorous. Because of this variety it can sit on your bookshelf, without the disapproval of your girlfriend. This is elegantly put together by SEA design, and is a nice big size, so you get the same feeling as you would in a gallery.

Great photography5
The concept behind this book is fantastic and the images are stunning. It gives a fascinating insight into why women take their clothes off for photographers, and challenges conventional notions of beauty- which is always a good thing in my opinion.

Rankin rocks!5
This book is amazing because Rankin is so cool. Each photo is playful yet sensual, exactly the way each women sees herself.
