Product Description

It all revolves around Flash and Maths. It's what you do in your spare time, just take little ideas and mess around with them. This is a book of inspiration, beautiful enough to leave on the coffee table, but addictive enough to keep by your computer and sneak out while no-one's looking so you can go back to that movie that you were tinkering with 'til 3 o'clock this morning. It's a fun book.

It's a book of iterative experiments, generative design. Each author does four experiments. Each experiment takes up four pages. We give you the code and explain the essence, then you take away your inspiration and run with it. The purpose of the book is to learn through experimentation because you are inspired to do so, not because someone is telling you to do so.

Customer Reviews

beware - an update - not a new book4
Flash Math Creativity is a great book.
BUT - if you have version one - ALL the examples and actionscript wizards are the same.
I bought this thinking i was going to get new inspiration. I just feel a bit ripped-off.
If you don't have the first edition - buy this! the work is incredable, and i certainly found the examples useful and inspiring first time 'round.

Design meets code5
When using flash from a desing point of view its often hard to get by with out using any actionscript, in fact often impossable. While this book is by no means an introduction to actionscript or programing it offers an excellent set of examples on how actionscript can be be used to create cool and eye catching graphics which will get your flash creations remembered. The book is designed for people who already know some actionscript and puts your knowledge to good use by showing things that you might only think could be done in a high end 3d package. For example 3d text, 3d bounceing balls, dot grids and even a 3d ploter. If you think you might find this book a bit hard, as I thought, then if you understand how basic for loops work and know about duplicateMoiveClip with different properties, like _x, _yscale, _alpha, then you'll be fine, the rest is quite easy to follow. Make know mistake however if you are looking for something on other areas of actionscript (like xml) becuase this book focuses on design and "how cool" something looks! Great book.
