Grown Up Witchcraft
This books sums up Witchcraft for me. Whilst always being drawn to The Old Ways and Natural Magic, I have found Wicca places too much emphasis on the whole coven organisational side of things, (which although I am aware is part of the nature of Wicca,) I have to ask when something is so part of you, why should you feel the need to then allow yourself and your beliefs to be organised? People's spirituality has always done just fine until the need has been felt to organise it and religion was born. The Old Craft is not Wicca. 13 Moons is perfect for the solitary and makes you think for yourself and encourages you follow your own instincts, which perhaps you've always known were there but needed some guidance. This book is not an easy ride but will guide you through the lunar year, advising how to awaken your deep inner instincts and knowledge. You find your place in the whole birth/death/life cycle and your understanding and connection with the earth deepens. Nature can be cruel at times, but this is life. If you want a book that speaks to your gut as well as your head and heart, get this. You won't be disappointed.
What a Witch starting out on the Path really needs!
I've ready many books on witchcraft and have only just found this one and wish it had been my first introduction. This is NOT a book on the Wiccan way of witchcraft.
Books by Rae Beth and Marian Green came close to what I thought a "real" witch would be, but Fiona Walker-Craven takes you that much further.
The book is set out in a workbook style taking you from The Wolf Moon to the Oak Moon (and beyond). Each chapter has small anecdotes from her own experience as well as very practical exercises. Each one brings you closer to nature, yourself and a life practicising as a witch. None of the exercises are as easy as they seem upon first reading them.
For those who are not out in the country, are housebound, disabled or just stuck in the middle of a city, Fiona has written a book called "High Rise Witch" with a lot more practical ideas for adapting those practices she sets out in "13 Moons".
This is a book for those who are serious about LIVING the life of a witch, not just attending and/or performing the odd ritual or two, but actually living as a witch day in and day out.
If you buy no other book on witchcraft, then buy this one. It may be all you ever need!
A classic.....
This book was one of my first reads on the path to the old ways. Written with genuine humour and sensitivity to the Old ways, this book is a must for anyone who wants to walk and live with the Old Gods. Unfortunately though the book is excellently written. I've had two copies this book and both fell apart, this is due to its flimsy publishing, as anyone who has bought owt by ignotus press can vouch. Cheap and nasty!. This book now is hard to come by and hopefully will be out again with a different publisher.
