Product Description

Sufism is the heart of Islam. Its key is an inner light and awakening, an outer courtesy and service to humanity. It relates to it much as the mystical tradition does to Christianity, but far more prominently. With authors like Rumi achieving all-time popularity, it is increasingly acknowledged as a spiritual answer to modern materialism. This introductory guide describes its origins and background, the relationship with Islam and its spread throughout the world. It covers what is means to be a Sufi and the relevance of Sufism in modern life. Biographies of prominent Sufis and a selection of writings complete this guide to a profound tradition.

Customer Reviews

You get exactly what it says - except it does it very well!4
The title really says exactly what this book is about. It is thoughtful and explains in clear and very accessible language what Sufism is about. It, in every way, opens up - because it is thoughtful - what the contents of the book is all about. It gives to the reader a clear and insightful window into Sufism. This book is a must for all students - not just the beginner of Sufism.

Enlightening Read5
A truly brilliant book that clearly details the true meaning and spirit of the much misunderstood Sufi tradition within Islam. I could not put this book down and having finished felt deeply touched and in need of greater spiritual nourishment.

The book deals with the definitions of Sufism, the early developemnt of Sufism, Sufi orders, basic Sufi concepts, Sufi practoces, Sufism and society in modern times and much more.

If Sufism was an awakening of idividulas discovering the true prophetic way then this simple yet powerful book may be described as the modern day awakening for both Muslims and non-Muslims today.
