Customer Reviews
Nice, but more detailed research would have been nice...
I'm a big Alien(s) and Predator fan (one of the few that actually liked AvP!), so from the outset I'll say that my review is coloured by that. This book is a really nice adition to a serious collector's collection: it goes into a fair degree of detail on each film, with notes on the original scripts (and ideas that even preceded those) and a short 'essay' on each movie. I found all of this very interesting and some of the detail was new to me - being that I am a serious fan, that in itself is unusual! However, this is where the criticism also comes in. The author - although clearly vey enthusiastic about the subject matter - either makes a number of basic mistakes or just plain doesn't know some of what he is writing about. Ripley wasn't resurrected 300 years after her death; Weyland-Yutani hadn't surveyed 300 star systems. These kind of details (that most fans will notice straight away!) made me question some of the veracity of some of the author's sources...! Other than that, a really nice book which I enjoyed a great deal.
