Editorial Reviews
From the Publisher
Mnemonics
allow complex information to be condensed into a few words and
essentially make your memory more efficient. There is no substitute
for hard work and wider reading but this is of little use if you
cannot locate your facts or get information muddled up. Mnemonics allow you to secure information in your head with the aid of word play or visual associations. If a good depth of knowledge is the cake then mnemonics are the icing.
From the Author
The mnemonics in this book have been created or collated by
us and we have found them to be invaluable in our studies. There are many sources of mnemonics out there but it can be timeconsuming to go through many phrases from different sources for the same condition. In this book we have incorporated the mnemonics that we have personally tested and found to be the most memorable. The best mnemonics are those that are most relevant and therefore it is beneficial to try and personalise them. A mnemonic should not have to try too hard or you will need a mnemonic to remember it!
From the Back Cover
/mnemonic n. a pattern of letters or ideas which aid the memory.
From Mnemosyne, the Greek goddess of memory.
Mnemonics have long been used as a method of learning in medicine. Through repetition and association, revision through mnemonics enables you to remember complex information through recalling simple phrases - making it an ideal method for learning in medicine and other complex sciences.
PasTest's Mnemonic range uses this technique to make revision simple and quick. All our mnemonics authors have used these phrases to help them revise for, and pass, those important exams. In Mnemonics for Medical Undergraduates, phrases are presented in subject chapters for targeted learning and expanded explanations are a revision tool in themselves.
PasTest's medical undergraduate list features titles for students in all stages of medical school.
Customer Reviews
Magical,Fantastic,Wonderful (not enough words to describe it)
I came by this from a friend and now can't live without it.It has got me through some mad 4th year clinicals and I am sure it will be my bible for my final year. All I can say is - you gotta to grab this book.Fun to read and easy to re-call.
Very useful
I think this book is an excellent tool for any medical students entering their clinical years as well as being a handy revision guide for 1st and 2nd year medics. The book is specific enough to be used as revision notes for many of my modules but is generic enough so I can use it well into my final years. I thoroughly recommend this book for any medical student looking to make their lives a little easier.
nice little gem for the slow learners amongst us!!
having found this book on the Pastest website, i wasnt dissapointed, as it upheld the high standards expected of the Pastest range.
i have bought other medical mnemonics books, which have either been too detailed in a few specialities, or not detailed enough. But i think the authors have got the balance right on this one. The book is conveniently seperated into systems, which is a useful way of looking up mnemonics. I was impressed by the huge number of mnemonics available, and often there are several different ones to chose from!! it has helped me to learn all them important lists, (and i have a memory like a sieve!!)
I was also impressed to read that the book had been written by medical students for medical students, and have found it a great aid to supplement my final year notes. I would HIGHLY recommend it, and for the price that you are paying ---you cant go wrong!!! If only it was published sooner!
My only feedback to the authors would be to suggest maybe adding some pictoral aids to help illustrate the book for any future editions.
In summary it should be on every medical students books to buy as essential reading!!
