Product Description
Carsten Krieger got a camera at the age of eight. He decided then to become a photographer. But life got in the way. In the early 1990s he had a decision to make: serve with the German army or participate in a social care scheme. He chose the latter and became an oncology nurse in a paediatric ward, encountering daily the fragility of life. The Fertile Rock is dedicated to Samson, a boy whose dreams died with him at the age of seven. In 2001 Carsten, with fellow nurse and wife, Ina, moved to County Clare. His childhood dream was about to come true. A photograph speaks volumes, but one word describes Carsten's photographs magical. The Burren is a place of opposites: a desolate landscape, which miraculously flourishes with flora and fauna. Carsten captures this unique ecosystem through each season: the burgeoning of spring, the ripeness of summer, the dusky hues of autumn and the crisp freshness of winter. Winter guests such as wadingbirds and wildfowl welcome the seasonal lakes. Feral goats on steep cliffs illustrate the rugged nature of this terrain. A rare winter snowfall lends a sense of enchantment and magic to Carsten's photographs. The Burren is a place that grips you heart and soul. So will these photographs.
