Synopsis
The fact that London was not burnt to the ground in the Second World War is a direct tribute to the Fire Service of the time. In 1940, incendiaries and highly explosive bombs rained down on London for 57 consecutive nights. This is the story of that time and of the men and women who worked through some of the fieriest and most dramatic nights of Britain's history.

Customer Reviews

Very interesting and touching book. 5
If one wants first hand details of those dreadful nights of the Blitz and feels that they are there with the brave firemen then this book is for you. The author pulls no punches about what the men and woman had to put up with and the way they were treated by first the public at large who gave them hell only to realise what a bunch of gallant men and woman they really were - how fickle the public is really when you think - and then by the Government who were slow at giving them the much needed equipment and help financially in the amounts that they deserved when injured. I won't give the tale away. Read it and enjoy and marvel at the daring deads. Only one thing spoilt the book and that was the very bad binding. The pages kept falling out at every page you open and I am having to resort to sellotape to hold them in, otherwise, great book, well written and a moving account of the Blitz on London.
