From the Back Cover
Hell in Barbados is the powerful true story of a drug-addicted smuggler who found his salvation in the unlikeliest of places. Told with disarming honesty, the book propels the reader into the mind of an addict and shows us the depths of degradation one man sunk to before finding the inner strength to save himself.
Terry Donaldson met with success early in life but his struggle with addiction soon became an all-out war. His Jekyll and Hyde lifestyle - TV presenter by day, whilst he scoured the streets of London in search of drugs and prostitutes by night - caused him to lose everything. Desperate to avoid financial ruin, he succumbed to the financial temptations of drug trafficking and agreed to smuggle drugs from England to Barbados. But he was caught and spent the next three years of his life in one of the world's worst prisons, where brutality and depravity were a way of life.
Hell in Barbados is an honest and disturbing account of the stabbings, beatings, shootings and full-scale riot that Donaldson witnessed during his imprisonment in the Caribbean.
After graduating from college, Terry Donaldson travelled the globe. He has been a tarot practitioner for over 30 years. No stranger to the media, he has written several books on the esoteric and has hosted his own cable-television show. Following his experiences, he has become a
counsellor and helps people to overcome addiction problems. He currently lives in London.

fantastic read
an incredible story of one man battli8ng against massive odds- he takes us through the London School of Economics in the 70s, through Afganhistan, Thailand, and Barbados-prison- Glendairy.....and eye-witne4sses the incredible riots there of only a couple of yeasr ago.....
a REAL page-turner!!!!!
outstanding book
this story- I rmember it happeneing it was all in the papers out there. I was on holiday and I remember the locals being up in arms. There was nearly a revolution and the govt. out there JUST managed to keep things under control..... amazing to see the true story actually come out......
incredibly insightful
Im scrating my head wondering why on earth a customer gave this book 1 star.
I finished the book a few weeks ago and thought it was excellent and definatly able to hold its own against some of the other biographical heavy weights such as "A million pieces little Pieces" By James Frey and dare I say "A Piece of Cake" the Cupcake Brown Story. These were intense stories and dont get me wrong, very engaging and thought provoking. However Donaldson's book shows that you dont have to come from a broken home or low prospects to become an addict. The man lead by all intents and purposes a good life. Good education from one of this countries top universities, had his own business, family, money but all that gots belly up when you have a drug problem.
Donaldson is able to give you a clear depiction of what the hell is going on. Whether he's back packing around the world in a drug addled haze or running in blind panic in the midst of a prison riot. He also has the incredible gift of making the reader laugh. Granted that some of the things he experiences are far from comedic, he is able to see the humour in all the madness
I found my self rooting for him in different situations, whether drugs were involved or not. Even though I knew what was coming, when arrested at the airport, part of me wanted him to make it safely on the plane and get home.
This is a book you wont be able to put down, I couldnt! Unlike some of the others mentioned above that at times got so harrowing, I had to put them to the side for a while to get my strength back to continue, Hell in Barbados really is a journey that i had to go on and had no regrets about doing so.
