A Veritable Tour de Force5
Of the many books which have been written over the years on the subject of the ubiquitous "Toby" none comes close to even approaching the intensity of detail and depth of information which Fastenau and Mullins have so diligently captured within the pages of this book.
As dedicated "Toby" enthusiasts the pair spent close on four years compiling, researching, and collating this magnum opus on what is, essentially, a very involved and convoluted topic.
In the 350 lavishly illustrated pages not only do they depict photographic images of over 4000 individual Tobies and derivatives ranging from the cheap and cheerful to rarest and most exquisitely crafted examples. Equally importantly they incorporate in a highly readable fashion extensive historical detail regarding the many companies who produced them. No mean feat when you consider the huge number of takeovers, amalgamations and bankruptcies which have taken place within the pottery industry during the past two centuries.
Couple this with comprehensive listings of all known Tobies encountered at the time of publication and the reader has a truly comprehensive and definitive volume which is guaranteed to satisfy even the most fastidious collector.
