Product Description

This book is for anyone who wants to record music at home that sounds as good as some project studio productions. The emphasis is on using a home computer as the central part of the recording studio, a few reasonably priced software applications, and carefully chosen sound equipment. The book takes the reader from start to finish -- from concept to final publication via traditional distributed media and the Internet.

Customer Reviews

A critical must-have for the aspiring home musician!4
Ben Milstead presents this technological minefield with the enthusiasm and wit of a student and the expertise of a life long sound engineer. Dispensing with the jargon and techno-speak wherever possible and using easy to grasp explanations elsewhere, this book provides a comprehensive introduction to electronic sound production, (at times it takes two or three reads for it to sink in...)whilst maintaining momentum and moving through to the all important 'how to do it' sections. The book covers what you need, how to assemble your stuff, how to produce the sound and how to lay it down onto digital media. Everything is there from voice projection and MIDI through to the soft- and hard-ware requirements.
Whilst the book is clearly focussed on digital and PC-based music production, and more specifically employing Cakewalk's Sonic multi-tracking software, Milstead makes no apology for this, stating that this is the best value way to kick-off for the budding enthusiast.
Great book, almost as exciting as music making itself, and considerably cheaper...
