Customer Reviews
Beautiful, inspiring, informative, brilliant.
I had a couple of video's from e.john robinson on techniques for painting seas and rocks. He is so laid back and his lilting voice just takes you in. He shows you techniques with such ease that you feel that there is nothing to it. It was this that inspired me to go for this book which I received today.
Its just as good. He goes through the background knowledge that helps you to understand and build the scene YOU want. He doesn't give you lists of colours and equipment but suggest what type of things you can use. And you don't have to have an expensive or extensive kit. He takes you through several paintings in stages so that you can follow and practice them.
He has a section of reference photos that you can use and a gallery of his paintings in large size so you can follow his brush strokes if you want.
But the best bit for me is that on each page there is a little of his own experience in a short tale. Either as a child or as a teacher of painters. It is a lovely book with something that will capture the delight of everyone. Its technical but light, informative and precise, but loose and encouraging for you to try your own thing. Lovely.
