Average customer review:Product Description
The purpose of this textbook is to bridge the gap between the mainly descriptive treatment given in introductory university texts and the highly theoretical accounts found in graduate level texts. It covers all core university-level subjects as well as most major optional units, and is intended to be used as an introduction to both macroscopic and microscopic physics at an intermediate level.

Comprehensive but challanging!!
Make no mistake, this book covers literally everything you will be expected to know in the mainstream physics course (BSc/MSci)in the second and third years. The book is superbly managed and smoothly moves from topic to topic with admirable continuity. The book possess a clear lecture type style and will not leave you sratching your head.
However, and here's the rub, the book assumes you know alot, in both mathematical techniques and foundanation physics in the first year. It takes no prisoners in its pursuit of a rigorous exposition in Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Physical and geometric optics, Thermodynamics, Relativity and Partical and Nuclear Physics.
In short, worth having on your shelf but not for the faint hearted.
