Synopsis
Revised annually to keep up with the constant changes to European legislation, programmes and measures, this text covers the whole spectrum of EU activities both in the internal market and in the world. The book uses an interdisciplinary approach to explain the economic aspects of European legislation and policies and is written by an "insider", an adviser of the European Commission. It approaches the European realities in a pragmatic rather than a dogmatic or theoretical way. The guide leads the reader through the Internet, since it gives exact references to the "Official Journal of the European Communities", and the site address where the full text of a Regulation, a Directive or a programme can be found.
Customer Reviews
Very pro-EU, but then, it's for people wanting to work for it
I was recommended this book when I was studying for the EU civil service exams. I've read it, and it does teach you about the European Union's policies.
My only complaint is that it's sickeningly pro-EU. For a more neutral text, check out the Economist's Guide to The European Union. For a more elaborate and humorous account, check out "Ever Closer Union".
But if you're all-out pro-EU, then you'll love this book (and you'll learn a lot reading it). It has helped many a Commissioner pass his exams and get the job.
