Average customer review:Product Description
Fundamental Astronomy gives a well-balanced and comprehensive introduction to the topics of classical and modern astronomy. While emphasizing both the astronomical concepts and the underlying physical principles, the text provides a sound basis for more profound studies in the astronomical sciences. The fifth edition of this successful undergraduate textbook has been extensively modernized and extended in the parts dealing with the Milky Way, extragalactic astronomy and cosmology as well as with extrasolar planets and the solar system (as a consequence of recent results from satellite missions and the new definition by the International Astronomical Union of planets, dwarf planets and small solar-system bodies). Furthermore a new chapter on astrobiology has been added.Long considered a standard text for physical science majors, Fundamental Astronomy is also an excellent reference and entrée for dedicated amateur astronomers.

Editorial Reviews
Review
...These improvements make Fundamental Astronomy a valuable handbook for astronomers...Unnecessary mathematical treatments which would make the real message difficult to digest are wisely replaced by the combination of clear textual explanations and illustrations, comprising hundreds of plain drawings, graphs, and photos...Fundamental Astronomy is an excellent work in the field of astronomy. When I start reading a chapter, I can hardly put it down...And, this book does not have an astronomical price; it is affordable even for students. I recommend this book for any higher-education astronomy classes and to all those who are interested in astronomy. --Eos, Vol. 89, No. 21, 20 May 2008

Good astronomy, well explained
This book has a beautiful way of explaining many of the fundamental parts of astronomy. It is an ideal book, for anyone that are interested in astronomy, though it can be defficult to understand some of the physics and math, if you're not to good at it. But it still gives you a lot of informations about many different areas... All and all, a very good and interesting book...
