Product Description

This book on multimedia tools for communicating mathematics arose from presentations at an international workshop organized by the Centro de Matemática e Aplicacoes Fundamentais at the University of Lisbon, in November 2000, with the collaboration of the Sonderforschungsbereich 288 at the University of Technology in Berlin, and of the Centre for Experimental and Constructive Mathematics at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. The MTCM2000 meeting aimed at the scientific methods and algorithms at work inside multimedia tools, and it provided an overview of the range of present multimedia projects, of their limitations and the underlying mathematical problems. This book presents some of the tools and algorithms currently being used to create new ways of making enhanced interactive presentations and multimedia courses. It is an invaluable and up-to-date reference book on multimedia tools presently available for mathematics and related subjects.

Review
From the reviews:

"This book on multimedia tools for communicating mathematics is a selection of presentations which took place at an international workshop organized by the Centro de Matematica e Aplicacoes Fundamentais. a ] This is an excellent book on tools and algorithms which are used to create new ways of making interactive presentations and multimedia courses. This is also an excellent up-to-date reference book on multimedia tools available for mathematics and related subjects. I strongly recommend this book a ] ." (T. E. Simos, Journal of Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering, Vol. 3 (2), 2003)

"This book is a sleeper; intended as a workshop on using multimedia tools to communicate mathematics, it is filled with eye-opening information to make readers wish they had attended the workshop in person. Luckily, the book and accompanying CD-ROM are good replacements. a ] The articles and CD-ROM are great a ] ." (J. Johnson, CHOICE, September 2002)

"This book arose from presentations at an international workshop organized at the Centro del Matematic e Aplicacoes Fundamentais at the University of Lisbon a ] . These proceedings cover an enormous spectrum of both techniques and approaches and some extremely useful discussion. a ] As a resource, these proceedings should be on the desk of anyone with either a desire or need to develop multimedia tools for teaching and visualizing mathematics at any level." (Douglas Quinney, MSOR Connections, Vol. 2 (4), 2002)
