artisitic selection of a great book
I was dissapointed with this edition. The book is a selection of highlights from the excellent description de L'Egypt commisioned by Napoleon Bonaparte during his conquest of Egypt. The highlights focus on artistic and monumental content in general. The arcitectural and geographical and scientific content of the original has been edited out, a dissapointment for me as this was my main interest. The little coptic material that was documented has also not being included. Irish reader

A great collection of images of all things Egyptian.
A collection of prints of all (I think) the plates that Napolean and his team made of everything they found when they invaded Egypt. Not just the anicent architecture, but also the wildlife and (then) modern workings of the country.

I was very dissapointed at this book. My rating does not reflect this completely as the original ten volumes of "Description de L'Egypte" is an amazing book. This book presents brief highlights of the origianl focusing on the artistic and monumental features. The reason I wanted this book was for the detailed and extensive arcitectural maps and plans of monuments which are in the original; this has been removed from this edition. If this is what you want this is not the book for you. If you are interested in artistic content and historical feautures this content is largely intact
