Slightly disappointing
This sounded like a fresh take on the New Testament, with illustrations bringing the subjects in the text into a modern context. But it doesn't quite work. For one thing, the illustrations often seem unrelated to the text. For another, there are far too many issues raised in the NT to be addressed in a large-format picture. I think the problem is that the text is very dense, with lots of concepts and situations in a relatively small space, and one picture can only illustrate one main concept. Inevitably the illustration chosen by the publisher doesn't deal with the reader's impression of the most significant aspects of the text, and leaves one feeling unsatisfied.
I think on balance this book could just kick-start a few thinking processes, but you will quickly run out of road and need to turn to other publications, or other media, to maintain momentum.
Just bible with the nice pictures
If you are religiuos person, it's nice to read bible in a magazine style and with high quality pictures. But if you have already your new testament, don't waste your money on this modern book... The same story, just added pictures...
Bible Illuminated
I brought this book for my wife, and for the first 4 months she never put it down. She thoroughly enjoyed thumbing through the pages. The quality is very good, and is exactly what it was advertised as.
On the success of this original purshase, I have ordered the forthcoming Old Testament version, which I hope to read as well - if I am given the chance.
Oh, and for the benefit of the last reviewer - the original Bible had no chapters or verses either.
