Synopsis
This is a highly motivational self-help book with a difference: it has been written with great sensitivity in order that everybody, both young and old, can easily understand themselves and become in every way happier. The author's writings cover many aspects of life, among them attitudes, confidence, luck, success, depression, humour, forgiveness and many more. The book draws on everyday experiences and attitudes to show how we can change things for the better by adopting new approaches to people and situations. In an increasingly hard and insensitive environment, the secret of this book's success must be its relevance to the real life problems which all of us face, as well as the way in which the author provides some positive answers.
Customer Reviews
Just what I needed
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, losing my father to cancer and my mother to heart disease in a short space of time, I needed cheering up. I wouldn't say this book made me wildly ecstatic, but it certainly made me feel like getting out of bed. Unlike a lot of bland and overly academic self help books in which the writer seems to favour showing us how clever he is over practical steps that might actually help, Being Happy was instrumental in helping me rejoin life.
if you can only have one self-help book choose this one.....
I have hundreds of self-help books, some esoteric, some mystical but this simple down-to-earth book beats them all. This is the one I come back to again and again. And it doesn't require any complicated exercises or practice! I re-read it when I need to get back on track. And yes, after reading this book I *did* feel happier and got on with life in a more positive frame of mind. But you do need to read the book from beginning to end (it's a quick read) to get the life-affirming impact. I can recommend it for the trip to work each morning on the bus/tube. So far I have lent it to many friends and family members and all have enjoyed it.
Pick you up when you are low
I bought this book many years ago when I was suffering from depression and low self-esteme. This book along with the other books of Andrew helped me to grow in my self confidence and to become the happy person that I am today. I would also recommend "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" by David Burns. These books together helped me to overcome my lows and become a happy person.
