Customer Reviews
Definitely the Queen of Hearts!
A brilliant idea from Polydor to release a compilation of post-ABBA, ABBA and unreleased tracks of Agnetha's and importantly this release has the blessing of this underated, reclusive super-star! The album is beatifully and very stylishly packaged and no expense has been spared with rare photographs and informative and interesting text. The unreleased track "Queen of Hearts" isn't quite the lead song we're lead to believe and obvious highlights are the brilliant Agnetha driven vocals on the ABBA tracks but "The Last Time", released from her 1988 WEA album "I Stand Alone" (which was produced by Peter Cetera of Chicago fame) is a brilliant fusion of uptempo pop/rock, searing vocals from the diva herself and great production from Mr Cetera (did anyone ever see her perform this on Terry Wogan dressed in leather with her hair cut short and spikey?). "I Won't Let You Go" - on the "Eyes of a Woman" album is a very uplifting track, showing Agnetha as the strong-woman who's gonna keep her man (unusual and basic production methods aren't to everyone tastes though - I would love to see this song re-recorded and re-produced by Agnetha with Benny and Bjorn or even as an ABBA song with Frida!!!). "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" from her first post-ABBA solo album of the same name sees Agnetha singing about the loss of a great love in only the way she can - tenderly and almost tearfully. I bought "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" on vinyl when it was first released in 1983 - I was 13!! This track still haunts me today and brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it! Buy this Agnetha compilation and enjoy!
Excellent compilation of Agnetha's voice
If you want to add something that extra bit special to your collection or extend your Abba memorabilia - buy this CD. This compilation highlights the excellent voice and range of Agnetha Faltskog before and after Abba broke up. This lady is sorely missed. Some of these songs that Agnetha released deserved to have been bigger hits than they were. They are interspersed with some Abba songs that Agnetha featured heavily on. The Winner Takes It All is haunting and still brings a tear to the eye with Agnetha at her mesmorising best. One Way Love, I Won't Let you Go and the Heat is On should have been disco classics. This CD is great value for money too and would appeal to all generations.
After Abba broke up
Agnetha became famous as a member of Abba, during which time she was the lead singer on the majority of their hits. This compilation includes three Abba tracks (Winner takes it all, Slipping through my fingers and That's me) but mainly focuses on Agnetha's recordings after Abba broke up.
Agnetha's first solo album was released in 1983 and is represented here by The heat is on, Can't shake loose and the title track, Wrap your arms around me.
My favorite solo album of Agnetha's is Eyes of a woman from 1985. It was produced by Eric Stewart of 10cc and is represented by I won't let you go, Eyes of a woman and One-way love.
Her 1987 album, I stand alone, produced by Peter Cetera, is represented by The last time (not to be confused with the completely different Rolling Stones song of that title), Let it shine and I wasn't the one (a duet with Peter Cetera).
The other tracks include Queen of hearts (previous unreleased), various B-sides not released on original albums, a track from a soundtrack and a duet with a Swedish singer.
Agnetha's voice is as good as ever and there are inevitably echoes of Abba in her music. It is a fine collection that Abba fans everywhere will enjoy, though it is difficult to see who would enjoy this without enjoying Abba.
